WB-AMR gains traction in the UK

WB-AMR, or it's marketing term HD voice, has had a hard time gaining traction. The codec is a wideband one, meaning that at the input phase it samples from a wider frequency range thus reproducing much better audio quality on the receiving end.

I have actually participated in WB-AMR trials and was also impressed by its near "spooky" clarity. It does actually sound as if the person was sitting right next to you.

Orange UK launched the service (only on their 3G network) a few months ago and it is nice to see that they have been adding more handsets from different manufacturers (see this link)
